WHY DENMARK?

Denmark, known for the Little Mermaid statue, LEGO, and Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace, has been voted the happiest country in the world for more than 40 years.

Danes smile when presented with this statement. It feels neither recognizable nor wrong but is true anyhow.

All over the world, people, governments, and local authorities are working to find the secret of happiness. Countless media and studies have been engaged in solving the puzzle. Why? - Why Denmark?

There are many explanations why Denmark has been voted the happiest country for so many decades; we are the least corrupt country in the world, people relate to one another as equals, trust is a cornerstone, and we have a high degree of security, as well as the parental leave, is generous. All of this matters, but in particular, the core values that are sown from childhood and cultivated throughout the formative years matter most and form the basis of all that comes after.

Iben Sandahl has been one of the most influential communicators of the importance of free play, of the HYGGE and REFRAMING concepts, and the significance of empathy for a healthy and happy life. The principles are not just for Danes. Parents all over the world are already using them. They have implemented them in their daily lives without having the same circumstances as Denmark. Parenting has no boundaries; parenting belongs to every family and is about your choices.
